Why do so many believe the US created Al-Qaida?
Since 9/11 I have heard people say that the US 'created' Al-Qaida and 'trained' bin laden. These are not true, however. The Soviet Afghan War ended in 1989. Al-Qaida was created in 1990 in response to Iraqi belligerence towards Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia's tilt towards the United States. The organization that attacked us on 9/11 was the fusion between Al-Qaida and the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, which had no role in the Soviet Afghan War. Osama bin laden was part of a private arab group during that war that came on its own money and its objective was not so much to fight the Russians but rather to try and promote Wahabiism amongst the Afghan resistance. 20% of the mujihadeen's financing came from the US government, 20% from the Saudi government and 60% from private islamic charities. Bin Laden's group received no US monies. And the CIA did not train ANYONE in that conflict, there were no more than 2 CIA agents in Pakistan at any one time. All training and funding and direction were handling by Pakistan's ISI per the agreement between Pakistan and the US. What will it take to shatter the myth of the CIA and bin laden?
