Does the election of openly gay Annise Parker as Houston's mayor signal a shift in Texa's politics?

In what way?Is she magical because she is gay? She still has an office to run,budgets to set,etc. I really am amused that some people believe because a person is a difference race,ual orientation,or religion they are more special than the normal average person. Usually it is just more of the same of politics as usual right?
