Easy to make culture medium (agar) for at home experiment.?

I would like to show my nephews the growth process of fungi and bacteria found in the home, but I can't find any simple gelatin-based recipes for making a simple agar. Any suggestions that won't break the bank and doesn't involve hours of standing over a pot of boiling bones? Thanks for your suggestions!
