What kind of guitar pick do you use, and what genres do you play?

I agree with your thick pick preference, I use at the thinnest 0.83 mm tortex and at max 1.14. 1.5 gets a bit to thick to me and limits your alternate picking speed. I play rock and metal so I definitely need the stability of a thick pick; if the pick is too thin it starts to bend over at increased speeds and is really uncomfortable. My guitar is a Schecter C-1+ and I use either 10 or 11 gauge guitar strings; at the moment I have 10 gauge D'addrios, but i actually prefer ernie .
